Who we are

Raka is an iPhone app made by Harris Gani (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information Raka handles, why, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@getraka.com.

Information that stays on your iPhone

Location

Raka uses your location to calculate prayer times for where you are. The calculation happens entirely on your iPhone. Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else, and it isn’t included in analytics.

Screen Time selections

When you choose apps, categories or websites to block, iOS gives Raka opaque tokens rather than the names of the apps. Raka uses them only to apply blocking on your device. We can’t see which apps you chose, which apps you have, or how you use them.

Settings

Your settings, such as calculation method, Jummah time and reminders, are stored on your iPhone.

Information stored in your iCloud

Your prayer history (which prayers you marked and when) is saved on your iPhone and, if you’re signed in to iCloud, backed up to the private database of your own iCloud account using Apple’s CloudKit. This lets your history come back when you reinstall Raka or move to a new iPhone. Data in your private iCloud database is controlled by your Apple Account and can’t be accessed by us. Apple’s handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Information we collect

Usage analytics

We use PostHog to understand how Raka is used, so we can fix problems and improve the app. PostHog receives:

• App events, like finishing onboarding, marking a prayer, or opening a screen, along with details such as your plan and app settings.
• Device and app information: iPhone model, iOS version, app version, language and time zone.
• A random identifier created by the app. It isn’t linked to your name, email or Apple Account.
• Your IP address, which PostHog may use to estimate a rough location (such as country or city).
• Session recordings: screenshots of how screens are used, to find bugs and confusing screens. Text you type and the screens that show your prayer record are masked.

Subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have Raka Pro. RevenueCat receives your Raka code (a random code created by the app), your purchase and subscription history from Apple, and basic device information. RevenueCat also passes subscription events, like starting a trial or renewing, to our analytics, so we can see which plans people choose.

When you contact us

If you email us, including through Send feedback in the app, we receive your email address and what you write. Emails sent from the app include your Raka code, app version and iOS version so we can help. We use this only to reply and to fix problems.

What we don’t do

• We don’t sell or rent your information.
• We don’t show ads or use your data for advertising.
• We don’t track you across other companies’ apps or websites.
• We don’t access your contacts, photos or messages. When you invite someone, you choose who to send it to in the iOS share sheet; we never see who.

How long we keep it

Analytics data is kept for as long as it’s useful for improving Raka, and no longer than PostHog’s retention period for our account. Subscription records are kept by RevenueCat for as long as needed to provide your purchases and meet legal requirements. Support emails are kept until they’re no longer needed.

Your choices

• Location: you can turn off location access in iOS Settings. Prayer times will then need a location to work.
• iCloud backup: you can turn off iCloud for Raka in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud, and delete Raka’s iCloud data there under Manage Account Storage.
• Delete everything on your iPhone: delete the app.
• Analytics and subscription data: email support@getraka.com with your Raka code (Settings → tap the version number at the bottom → Copy Raka code) and we’ll delete the data linked to it.

Children

Raka isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we’ll also let you know in the app.
